Hettie of Hettie's Tearooms Guide to Pitlochry: How to spend a day in Pitlochry

Have you wondered what to do when you have a day in Pitlochry?  There’s lots to choose from depending on what you like to do, BUT this is what I would do. Oh, and It does depend on the time of year (we’re approaching winter at the time of writing).

My day would actually start the day before; by booking a table at Hettie’s Tearoom 😉. I would totally recommend making a booking as, at lunch time, we often have a queue out the door…. Happy Mum!!

Then, first on MY list for the day would be a walk around the gorgeous Faskally woods, the home to The Enchanted Forest (there is disabled access too!), the fit people can walk there from town (about 1.5 miles) … I’ll drive.  There’s a circular walk and it is 1km in length,  other paths branch off from this walk giving a wee bit more of a challenge but the walk itself is very flat!  It has a magical feel to it, almost a bit of an escape circling Loch Dunmore, surrounded by mature trees.   I go there often to clear my head, and my mum’s out with the dogs most morning, usually at a ridiculous hour, when most sensible people are still in their beds!    Pitlochry has loads of walks though for all abilities.

Next ……you guessed it! Lunch stop at Hettie’s!! Hettie’s Home made Sausage Roll or Coronation Chicken sandwich as a  “combo” of course, with cheesecake or red velvet cake, washed down with an oat milk latte (and some good Craic with the mad as hatters Hettie’s team!). Most likely after that I will need rolled out the door!  Mum always says she wants our guests to be “stuffed and happy!”

At this point my partner would probably leave to watch the football or something as equally dull (maybe a few holes of golf!!!  I know, I know…) which means one thing for me… shopping! A super dangerous shop (the good kind) is McNaughtons.   Barbour fans watch out jackets and clothes galore. It’s far too easy to spend a small fortune in there!  Just along the street is Keepsakes full of lovely homeware and accessories you don’t need but convince yourself you do!    And of course who doesn’t love a Christmas shop?  Ours has so many ‘personalisable’ (it should be a word!) gifts. My mum seems to have recently developed a liking for the new art gallery next to the butchers shop …. Oh dear!!!    Our old fashioned sweet shop is also a must!

Pitlochry is a Victorian spa town and during this shopping time try to remember to look up and check out the gorgeous Victorian buildings.  It’s a beautiful town….

Next on my agenda would be nap time….. oooh I do love a decadent afternoon snooze!!!

In the evening, my personal favourite haunt is the Auld Smiddy for dinner.  Amazing home made food, fab drinks (depends on my mood and if mum’s paying!). The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is relaxed and fun. Honestly, I recommend it to everyone that asks!  If you love rockin’ nightlife, nope…. That’s not Pitlochry!  However as the night progressed I would move to the Old Mill Inn as they usually have live music and a really great vibe.  A couple of hours there and a wee walk home…… that was a good day!!!

Hope you have a fabulous week, make sure to share the blog!
